Hello! This is Rowan "lithuanias" Laurinaitis, and you've probably found me from either Tumblr or Twitter. I mostly use Dreamwidth as a diary and might occasionally crosspost fic here.. All comments are allowed on this post so please feel free to introduce yourself or something.

☾ I've been sparse a lot because I got a new job! It pays 50% more than my old one and I'm actually using my Master's degree while working. :D The hours are weird, but it's really fun. Unfortunately because the hours are weirder than I'm used to, I'm exhausted after a shift even though it's only 2pm. I think it'll get better with time.

☾ Speaking of that job, I GOT A CAR. It's a new Nissan SUV and it's my baby, and I DROVE THROUGH SNOW AND SLUSH. I now understand all those country songs about cars. Also it cuts my morning commute from 40 minutes with public transport to around 15-20.

☾ Since my job is kicking my ass, Love as a Construct has been in a rut for a while. I had to split Chapter 7 because it was getting too unwieldy and long. Goddammit Poland and Hungary, work through your fucking issues.

☾ FROZEN 2?!?!? OH MY GOD??????? I love Elsa.

☾ Last Sunday, it snowed for about 30 hours straight and theres still snow on the ground as I type this. We're supposed to get even more snow today, over the weekend, and some next week. Please. I am a simple Californian. Please don't torture me like this, weather. I started to go bonkers in my apartment because I couldn't take my dog out on longer walks because I'm scared of black ice everywhere on the ground. Today enough snow melted and we went on a longer morning and afternoon walk.

☾ I've also got the final due date for the Eastern Europe Zine coming up Friday or Saturday and...err, I haven't even gotten a response that the mods received my last two check-ins so I have no idea if it's happening or not. Might as well just send in my final draft. Would they even know I sent it in? It's a shame. My fic is straight-up fun sibling shenanigans too, which I don't think I've ever written. Kinda just want to get it over with at this point because there's so many other things I want to write instead.

☾ I picked up With Fire and Sword from the library the other day and the translation I got is...interesting to say the least. Especially the way that the names are somewhat Anglicized are really weird to read. Jan is Yan and Jeremi is Yeremi and Jagiełło is Yag...you get my point. Don't even get me started on how the last names look. I'm only around three chapters in, but the translation is so strange that I'm half tempted to just order the Polish version and attempt to slog through it. I read the first few pages of the Polish version on an Amazon sample and my God is that more clear to read.

☾ On a similar note, I found a book about pre-Columbian Mexican myths at the library too, and I might switch over to that if I can't get through With Fire and Sword.

☾ I'm trying to 100% all three Spyro games on the Reignited Trilogy for the PS4. It's been a fun ride so far and made me deeply nostalgic. I loved all three games as a kid. So far, I've finished Spyro the Dragon and Ripto's Rage, and I've almost finished Year of the Dragon. It's a very pretty game, but I'm currently stuck on this godawful skateboarding minigame that's full of glitches and for the life of me, I can't finish. The game came out in November, and I hope that they would've patched it by now but Jesus.

My boss is coming into the office tomorrow so I should probably go to bed right now. Oops.

☾ I kind of missed updating my DW
regularly so I'll definitely try to do that more often.

☾ Even though I've been astoundingly productive writing-wise, I'm sort of a bit burned-out when it comes to doing fandom events and such. I had four with due dates within a month of each other! I'd like to focus more on original fandom works that aren't attached to events. I submitted an application for another Yuri on Ice zine (l-lmao...) but there's no guarantee I'll be accepted for it! And if I am, the dates and such aren't for months in advance.

☾ Speaking of those said events, I had an absolute blast writing my Yuri on Ice Secret Santa. I forgot how fun it could be to write for that fandom.

☾ I joined Pillowfort in the midst of the Tumblr chaos. Or rather, I remembered I had an invite link sitting in my inbox and signed-up finally. It's very much still a baby site, and the fandom communities there are quite small, but it looks like it has potential.

☾ After years of plotting, Love as a Construct is going full steam ahead. I think I might have a semi-regular uploading schedule now? (Monthly?!) Anyway the possibility of finally getting that published is all very exciting!

On a final note, I need to clean things up on here because. Oh boy.

Well...

Title: The Limitations of the Polish Language
Fandom: Hetalia
Pairing: Lithuania/Poland
Rating: T
Warnings: Dysphoria, brief discussion of sex
Summary: Polska is female, but they are not.
Notes: Thank you to Saucy on Tumblr for some help! Originally from the Kink Meme. Only slightly self-indulgement.

Ono.

That is the Polish language’s gender-neutral pronoun. Ono—a word which, translated into the English language, means it.

That is what Poland is. Poland, the representation of the Republic of Poland, is nothing more than an it in the eyes of their people.

Poland drinks their tea, the liquid scalding their throat as they try to take their mind off their chest. Tears spring into their eyes, and they struggle to gulp the burning tea. It’s four forty-five. Another half-hour and Lithuania should be back home from work.

Deciding that they can’t take this anymore, Poland pours the rest of their tea in the sink and heads upstairs. Their work clothes itch their skin, their pants reminding them of genitals that should not—cannot—be there and their shirt clinging to their chest. They unbutton their shirt before they reach the door and pull on something looser. A V-cut pastel blouse with small daisies on the sleeve. They change their pants into a short pink skirt.

Yet despite changing their clothes to reflect what they’re feels inside, the itch doesn’t go away. It remains, searing into a burn, and the mirror across the room tempts them to smash it into a million pieces.

Poland puts their head in their hands and sits on the bed, their back facing the mirror. Lithuania once said that their clothing choices made them look like a women, but woman never sat right with them. They are not a woman. They do not feel like a women. They do not feel like a man either.

I am an it.

Feliks opened the door to their house, kicking some mud off his boots and leaving them by the door. He took off his raincoat and placed his umbrella by the wall.

“Babe, I’m home!” he said.

“I’m in the kitchen.”

That was odd. The house had no strong scent of meat or spices or any of the rich, hearty foods Toris would make during the winter. Toris hated takeout.

Feliks entered the kitchen to find Toris sitting at the kitchen table. Toris had a half-full cup of coffee in his hands, a deliberative expression on his face. He looked up at the sight of Feliks, a small smile gracing his face.

A seed of worry sewed in Feliks’ stomach. “What’s up?”

“Hey, ahh, can I please talk to you for a little bit?”

Lithuania never took himself for a dancer, but whenever he did, Poland made sure to hold tight and never let him go.

His tall frame made him Poland’s perfect partner, gently taking his hand as they flowed across the room, field, wherever. He had the perfect grip on Poland’s waist, and Poland memorized the exact space where he rested his hand on his arm. As much as he didn’t like to admit it, Lithuania knew all of the nobility’s dances by heart, the walk of the Chodzony, the stately gestures of the Polonez, the short steps of the Minuet. His movements reminded Poland of a lithe, graceful horse, his hooves beating in step with the song.

"M-May I ask you to dance?" he would ask, no matter where they were, inside or out, in the middle of a great ball or alone in their room.

Poland would smile and take his hand. “Duh.” And the process would begin quick like the pjoviau šieną or mazurka, and he would whisk Poland away to a world of themselves.

Sitting alone in a cold Russian room, Poland wished Lithuania would dance with him again.
